Founded in Waltham, MA in 1996, Watch City Cigar celebrates its 25th Anniversary with this thick, rustic flake of Red and Bright Virginia leaf generously spiced with Perique. Good now, but built for aging. For those who like more info- In 2008 Watch City formulated a flake called Hampton Roads which was produced at a major American blending house to our specifications. This flake was a hit, but was sadly discontinued due to leaf shortages several years ago. We gave the same recipe to our friends at Sutliff who produced a Crumble Flake for us with the exact same specs....it too was a hit but did not resemble Hampton Roads in flavor or strength. This cake became our Old Dominion- our top selling tobacco. For our 25th Anniversary Sutliff was asked to source leaf for a true flake version of Old Dominion and as always they rose to the challenge. To our surprise, the flake they produced is very close to the original Hampton Roads. Rich and flavorful with a musty sweetness underneath and the potential to age well in tin for decades. An old mason Jar of our original Hampton roads which i Vacuum sealed in 2010 has continued to Perique and mellow over the years and has turned from mottled to jet black. They always took care to have a pocket sized block of sweet Virginia tobacco with them, which they would take a slice off to then rub out and smoke in their cutty pipes. 1 Russ' Tastykake Click for details A few years ago, when Russ was still pressing tobaccos himself, he made a new blend based off 10 to Midnight, but with some Perique and black Cavendish added to it. He had made up a large batch, but for some reason, it never wound up being put on the website. When we rediscovered it, samples were passed around the office and we knew that we had to make it available. In fact, Eric enjoyed it so much, he said we should name it Tastykake. 3 Hearth & Home White Night Click for details I guess that Ive become known, to some degree, for my tribute blends, like BlackHouse and Fusiliers Ration. But there was one blend that was so venerable that, even though I wanted to, I resisted from trying to make a clone of it. That blend is Balkan Sobranie Original Smoking Mixture. Of course, one concern is that theres a current incarnation of the blend, and like almost all tobaccos, it changes somewhat over time. The new version doesnt seem all that similar to what I smoked in the seventies, so when I finally felt that I missed the old version enough that I wanted to try to match it, the seventies version was my target When I released Hearth & Home Marquee WhiteKnight, the customer feedback was very positive, so I feel that the effort was worth it. WhiteKnight utilizes the same types of tobaccos that went into B.S.O.S.M. - bright Virginias, magnificent Orientals, especially the Queen of Tobaccos, Yenidje, and rich, smoky Latakia. Theres an incense-like aroma to WhiteKnight that immediately recalls my old favorite, and theres a crispness to the flavor thats unlike most Latakia blends. 4 GL Pease Windjammer Click for details Gregory Pease strikes again! GL Pease Windjammer is his unique take on a navy flake. As is common with this type of blend, the base begins with sweet Virginias, but from here it becomes more unique with the addition of mellow Burley, unflavored black Cavendish, and a heaping portion of Perique. Then the mixture is treated to a dose of sweet and tangy dark rum to make this an exceptional version of a classic navy flake that will definitely make you sit up and take notice.
